Top 10 Healthy Evening Snacks
Ever feel a bit snacky in the evening? Maybe your dinner didn’t fill you up quite like you thought it would? Regardless of the reason, it’s smart to keep healthy snacks on hand at all times, so in the moment when you need a snack, you don’t have to put too much thought into it.
These snack ideas can satisfy any craving for something salty, sweet, cheesy, crunchy, chewy, or cold and creamy! What you’ll also find in *most* of these snacks are at least two of the three macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein, and fat. This will help give you a boost in satiety so you don’t feel the need to eat the whole package. It’s important to mention that having at least two of the three macronutrients will help minimize spikes in blood glucose levels. High blood sugars before bed, or dropping blood sugars during the night, can disrupt your sleep cycle and make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. That’s why I recommend snacks with minimal added sugar + protein or fat before bed.
No matter what time of day you’re snacking, try to minimize distractions as much as possible. You don’t want to finish your snack and realize you never truly tasted it!
So let’s get to it! Here are my top 10 favorite healthy evening *or anytime* snacks!
Blueberries + Whipped Topping
Blueberries are my favorite fruit so of course I had to include it in my first snack idea! Enjoy these berries fresh while they’re in season or frozen and thawed in the off season. While they’re delicious on their own, I sometimes like to add a bit of whipped topping. Cocowhip is my favorite, but Redi Whip or heavy cream shaken in a jar (pictured) works too!
Lightly Salted Cashews + Raspberries
This is a new go-to snack of mine that targets the sweet and salty cravings nicely. Cashews are one of my favorite nuts for their slightly creamy flavor which pairs so deliciously with fresh raspberries!
Outshine Fruit Bar
Outshine is my preferred brand for a fruity and sweet frozen treat without artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup. The peach is my favorite!
Chocolate Almond Milk
Sometimes you just want a glass of chocolate milk to take you back to your childhood. I personally like the Silk Chocolate Almond Cashew Protein Milk pictured here. For 8 oz it only has 150 calories, 18 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein. Compare that to a standard 8 oz glass of chocolate milk with 200 calories, 26 grams of carbs, and 8 grams of protein. There’s still added sugar here but the protein will help stabilize blood sugars and keep you fuller for longer.
Potato Chips + Herb Cottage Cheese Dip
Yes you can still have potato chips! Since chips are pretty high in carbs, I do think it’s a great idea to pair the chips with some protein. I like to blend or mash cottage cheese with lemon juice and herbs to make a tasty and flavorful dip. If you normally enjoy chips with french onion dip, I think you’ll like this idea!

Almond Flour Crackers + White Cheddar Cheese
I have nothing against gluten or other grains; however, a lot of the popular crackers on the grocery store shelves are made with white flours and processed oils. None of which is going to keep you full and satisfied for very long. I really like crackers made from almond flour because the healthy fats and fiber are more filling. Plus these crackers still pair with my favorite cheeses: white cheddar or havarti!
Flavored Popcorn
If you’re a fan of plain popcorn, feel free to enjoy it! If you’re like me and need a little extra kick of flavor to get excited about popcorn, try buying a bag of prep-popped flavored popcorn. Just remember, the portion size is around 2-4 cups, not the whole bag!
Spoonful of Peanut Butter + Glass of Milk
Sometimes you just have to keep it simple. This combo still gives you that important carb + fat + protein combo we keep talking about, but with very little effort.
Yasso Frozen Yogurt Bar
These frozen yogurt bars have been around awhile, but I only just discovered them last year! The mint chocolate chip is my favorite.
